“One of the biggest potential downsides could be finding out information that you then add a variety of meanings, assumptions and narratives to that may or may not be accurate. Those assumptions may impact how you think of, feel about, and speak to the person.”

IF YOU GOOGLE, SHOULD YOU TELL THEM?

“There are people who will not like that you looked them up and there are people who will have also looked you up or who don't mind. When thinking about bringing it up, think about what you would like and consider how they might feel. It's also useful to think about how it will be and feel for you if you see something that you want to address, but don't address it because of how you learned that information. Will you feel like you're hiding something or will you be able to move through the information on your own? And, what will that feel and be like?”
