LIZ AFTON, LMSW
Therapist & LGBTQ+ Consultant
I believe difficult life experiences become portals for transformation when we are given a safe space to observe and learn from them. In therapy with me, you will find a warm, emotionally-attuned space where all your complexity is witnessed and affirmed without judgement. Radical acceptance can be an especially potent antidote to stigma, shame, or harmful internalized messages related to socially marginalized identities or lifestyles. No matter your unique struggles or goals, I am here to support you in discovering the most fulfilling and authentic version of your life possible and to reinforce your right to self-determination. You deserve to feel safe, worthy, and whole exactly as you are.
Healing takes work, but you can do it, and you do not have to do it alone. We can explore a variety of holistic resources to help you feel more confident managing life stressors outside of therapy sessions, including mindfulness techniques, grounding exercises, creative arts practices, pleasure-positive sex education, and conflict-reduction communication strategies. My goal is to help you reconnect with your innate resilience so that you can navigate the inevitable ups and downs of human existence with greater ease, insight, and self-compassion.
I have specialized training and expertise in working with: gender, sexuality, LGBTQ+ identities, sex workers/people with experience trading sex, asexuality, kink, BDSM, partners of trans people, survivors of interpersonal violence, survivors of childhood sexual abuse, body image, self esteem, chronic illness, PTSD, Complex PTSD, relationships, intimacy & desire, sexual anxiety, physical pain with sex (vaginismus), grief & loss, immigrant experiences, spirituality, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and burnout prevention for students, activists, healers, and other caretakers.
